You can enable web port redirection to run your own website, even if your ISP is blocking Port 80 to your computer. The feature allows you to provide outside access to your web server through an alternate port (other than the default Port 80 for websites) to allow your visitors access to your website.

Web port redirection setup

  1. Right-mouse click on the PlanetDNS Client icon in system tray and select Properties...

  2. Click on the Advanced tab.

NOTE: If you do not see the Advanced tab, it means that the software is running in Novice mode. To see the Advanced tab, you must set the software to Expert mode. For details, click here.

  3. Check the HTTP redirect www to Port: option and enter the number of the port you want to use for web redirection in the field provided.

  4. Press the Apply button to update and save the changes.

Using web port redirection

The redirection that has been set up in the previous steps, is only provided for www.<your name>.planetdns.net (or www.yourdomain.com). For example, if your Internet name was jsmith.planetdns.net and your PlanetDNS Client web port redirection option was enabled, your website would be viewed from a web browser using the address http://www.jsmith.planetdns.net (not http://jsmith.planetdns.net).

Similarly, if you had your own domain name using the PlanetDNS Pro service, redirection would only be provided for the www.yourdomain.com..

NOTE: You will have to configure your web server to run on the port you specified in step 3 above.
