The VNC (Virtual Network Computing) tab allows you to enable and disable remote access to this computer, set your remote login password, configure options and request assistance from a support center.

 

 

Settings

Virtual Network Computing allows you to control this computer remotely as if you were sitting right in front of it.

 

  • Allow this computer to be controlled remotely (recommend)
    Select this option to enable remote access to your computer from anywhere on the Internet. When this option is selected, the software will show a green icon in your computer's system tray (along the bottom of your screen against the right corner), indicating that the unit is online and ready for remote connections. If you want to be able to control the computer remotely, you need to have this option selected.
     

  • Do not allow this computer to be controlled remotely
    Select this option to disable remote access to your computer over the Internet. When this option is selected, the software will shown a grey icon on your computers system tray (along the bottom of your screen against the right corner), indicating that the unit is offline and no remote connection can be made.

Remote Connections

You can see how many remote users are connected to this computer using the remote user field. If no remote user is connected, the field will indicate There are currently 0 remote users connected . To disconnect remote users, press the Disconnect button and select the user you wish to disconnect.

 

Security

To control your computer remotely, you must specify a password. The password will be requested each time you want to control your computer remotely. Click the Set Password button and specify a password in the Password field.  Repeat your password in the Confirm Password field. Your password must be at least 5-characters in length and should contain both letters and numbers. Select a password that is easy to remember, but difficult for others to guess.

 

Options

This section allows you to control use of the global keyboard and mouse options when your computer is accessed remotely.

 

  • Enable both remote and local keyboard/mouse (recommended)
    Select this option to allow both the PlanetRemote-enabled computer's keyboard/mouse and local computer's keyboard/mouse to function at the same time.
     

  • Disable remote keyboard and mouse
    Select this option to allow only the PlanetRemote-enabled computer's keyboard/mouse to function. The keyboard/mouse on the local computer that is used to control the PlanetRemote-enabled computer are disabled.
     

  • Disable local keyboard and mouse
    Select this option to allow on the local computer's keyboard/mouse to function. The keyboard/mouse on the PlanetRemote-enabled computer are disabled.

Assistance

Transfer control of your computer over to a trusted individual or organization (generally referred to as "Support Centers”), by pressing the Get Assistance… button. You can then select the desired support center that will control your computer.
